Couple butted and injured by bison in Yellowstone

A man and woman from Heber City, Utah were injured Wednesday morning after a bison butted the two at Mud Volcano just north of Lake Village in Yellowstone National Park.

74-year-old Theodore Schrader and 72-year-old Patsy Holmes were taking photographs on a boardwalk when a bison approached them.

Officials say the bison butted Holmes who fell into Schrader, and both individuals fell to the ground.

Schrader suffered minor injuries, and Holmes was flown to Idaho Falls, Idaho in stable condition.

Park officials say citations were not issued to either individual.

This is the first confirmed incident of a bison injuring visitors in 2017.
