Bridge repair project moves to Rexburg Tuesday

A major bridge repair project on U.S. Highway 20 moves north to the south Rexburg interchange (Exit 332) on Tuesday, July 11. The Idaho Transportation Department is using $1.1 million in general fund surplus for critical maintenance and safety repairs. Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction and the speed limit will be reduced to 50 miles per hour. The work will include resurfacing decks of the overpass bridges and approaches. Work was finished on the Texas Slough bridges south of Thornton last week. In December 2015, the Idaho Transportation Board selected road and bridge projects across Idaho for maintenance and repair work. Projects were all funded by the $54.1 million in general-fund surplus provided by the Idaho Legislature that fiscal year. Selections came from a pool of projects based on analysis of each project’s return on investment in safety, mobility, economic opportunity, bridge condition, and right-of-way purchases.
