Rigby boy in critical condition following lawnmower fire

A 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after suffering life-threatening burns on nearly half of his body.

The boy’s aunt, Jorelle McClellan, tells the Idaho Statesman Braxton Bigelow was injured during a lawnmower fire at his Rigby home in northeast Idaho last Monday. He is being treated at the University of Utah Burn Center.

McClellan says her brother, Josiah Bigelow, also suffered severe burns on his hand and arms while he tried to help his son and put out the flames.

According to McClellan, the boy has first-, second- and third-degree burns on 45 percent of his body. She says doctors have already removed some dead skin. They expected he will be in treatment for over a month and in recovery for a full year.
