Four east Idaho city council candidates

Municipal elections will be held in Idaho on November 7, 2017.

Information and forms for people interested in becoming a candidate is available through the city clerk’s office.

Nominating forms must be filed by 5 p.m. September 8.

The deadline for write-in candidates to file their declaration of intent with the City Clerk is October 10.

REXBURG

In Rexburg, voters will select 3 city council members to serve four-year terms.

Those filing so far include Incumbents Brad Wolfe and Christopher J. Mann and candidate Mikel Walker. In Rexburg, the winners will be the top three vote-getters.

IDAHO FALLS

In Idaho Falls, the Mayor and three council seats (#2, #4, #6) are up for election.

So far, Ronald Michael Jorde has officially filed to run for Mayor. Four other candidates, incumbent Mayor Rebecca Casper, Jeff Thompson, Barbara Ehardt, and Tim Downs have filed an official Treasurer’s document for Mayor. That means they can legally start to receive and spend funds on their campaigns.

Incumbent David Smith has filed for re-election to Council Seat 2.

Idaho Falls educator Jim Francis has announced his candidacy for Council Seat 4.

James (Jim) S. Freeman has filed for Council Seat 6.

Longtime Idaho Falls educator Shelly Smede has announced she will run for Seat #2 on the Idaho Falls City Council.

BLACKFOOT

In Blackfoot, voters will determine 4-year terms for Mayor and two city council seats, seats #1 and #2.

Incumbent Mayor Paul Loomis will seek re-election. He is challenged by Jim Thomas and Chris VanOrden.

Incumbent Christopher Jensen has filed for re-election to Council Seat #1. He will be challenged by Sean Williams.

Incumbent Lane “Skip” Gardner has filed for re-election to Council Seat #2.

POCATELLO
In Pocatello, voters will elect a Mayor and candidates for council seats #4, #5 and #6.

Incumbent Mayor Brian Blad has filed for re-election. Challengers, so far, include Jamie Hudson, Chad Horst, Tammy Bartlett, and Sam Laoboonmi.

Seat #4 incumbent Heidi Adamson was unopposed.

Linda Leeuwrik has filed for City Council Seat #5.

For Council Seat #6, Rick Cheatum, Steven Conway, and Elton Zundel have filed petitions of candidacy.
