Bingham County Sheriff’s Office investigates incident at Snake River HS that left student injured

Bingham County Prosecutor Cleve Colson has declined to provide any additional information about the investigation into an apparent incident at Snake River High School.
In response to public records request submitted by Local News 8 and Channel 3 Eyewitness News, Colson said disclosure of further information would interfere with enforcement proceedings, deprive a person of a right to a fair trial, and/or constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.

The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday that it is investigating an incident at Snake River High School that left a student injured.
Sheriff Craig Rowland could not provide details of the incident, citing prosecutor review.
Snake River School District Superintendent David Kerns said the district was following board policy in dealing with the incident.
When asked about an unnamed teacher who may have been involved, Kerns referred to board policy 7604, “Administrative Leave for Certified Employees.”
The policy outlines the process for placing a certified employee on leave. It provides three options:
Voluntary leave Involuntary leave with pay Involuntary leave without pay due to court order
Kerns would not provide specifics about which part of the policy was used.
The Snake River School District has an anti-bullying policy, Kerns said. According to policy 8735, “The district is committed to providing a positive and productive learning and working environment. Hazing, harassment, sexual harassment, intimidation, menacing, cyber-bullying or bullying by students, or third parties by students, or third parties is strictly prohibited and shall not be tolerated.” Kerns said the policy is in-depth and will be followed.
Kerns would not provide details on any action being taken against the student(s) involved, citing federal law protecting minors, but reference board policy 8070, “code of conduct – discipline policy”.
Kerns said the district will be holding an anti-bullying assembly for all students Thursday and, in addition to regular training, teachers in the district will receive training on how to prevent and handle bullying on Friday.
KIFI/KIDK has submitted a public records request to the Bingham County prosecutor requesting more information on the incident.
Bingham County Prosecuting Attorney Cleve B. Colson told KIFI/KIDK, “We are currently going through the review process and working with all of the parties to ensure that the matter is handled properly.”
