Tonight’s Sho-Ban football game against Mackay is canceled

Shoshone-Bannock Jr./Sr. High School Superintendent/Principal Jonathan Braack announced at noon Friday the Sho-Ban Chiefs football game with the Mackay Miners tonight, September 22 is canceled.

Braack said eligibility problems exist regarding Sho-Ban School Board and Idaho High School Activities Association policies including some players failing drug tests and not being academically eligible.

“With the number of players left, we don’t have enough to cover the positions,” Braack said. “We tried everything this morning to reward the kids who were eligible to play, but it didn’t happen.”

Braack said a meeting with parents will be held Monday morning at the school.

“We’re trying to do everything we can to keep the season. They still have four games after tonight, and we’d like to keep those.”

Braack said the school intends to reward the players that are eligible and intervene to help those who weren’t eligible.

“As a school, we want to help the boys play,” he said.
