Mayor declares October Family History Month

If you want to find out more about your family history, you’re in luck. There are all kinds of activities coming up in October in Idaho Falls

Thursday night Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper at the city council meeting proclaimed October as family history month in Idaho Falls. After that she was presented her own family history by local genealogist Loretta Evans. Evans said we can all benefit from researching family history

“If you have ancestors who overcome difficult problems, then when you are faced with difficulties in your own life, you can say ‘If my grandmother can cross the plains, then I can surely handle whatever I have to handle,’ Evans said. “Even if you have ancestors who had problems, you can learn from their mistakes and you can say this is something I need to be very careful about in my own life.”

Evans discovered a number of the mayor’s ancestors were involved in public service. One grandfather was a police officer and the other ran for city treasurer. There will be several family history events in Idaho Falls next month.
