Pocatello prepares for ‘Millennial City’ as city continues to grow

Community members and business owners gathered in Pocatello on Thursday to learn more about the Northgate project.

Once the Northgate or Siphon Road Freeway Interchange is done, developers will start working on the Northgate community.

According to the Northgate website, the new community will be a “Millennial City and will be a place where the American Dream is restored and well-paying jobs coexist with excellent, affordable housing.”

The website went on to say they will have bikeable communities and will be built to green neighborhood standards.

“The Northgate project is an integrated community that combines several different master planning aspects to be able to deliver a livable, walkable, retail, commercial center that is going to provide all the different accessories and conveniences to the people adjacent to Northgate and to people throughout the community,” said Portneuf Development employee, Michael Jaglowski.

As Pocatello and Chubbuck continue to grow and more high paying jobs need to be filled in the area, some people said this new community is exactly what the area needs.

“I see very positive things coming out of it, its the futuristic look at how we are going to be able to develop and make this area grow and strengthen it and I am excited about it, commented former city councilman Craig Cooper.

Developers could not give us an exact date when they will break ground on the Northgate Community but said construction will begin in the near future.
