Groundbreaking for new courthouse expansion in Jefferson County

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners recently awarded the construction contract to DL Beck, of Rexburg. It is expected the project will take approximately 14 months to complete and provide much needed space in the growing county.

The construction site will be held at the immediate south of the existing courthouse. The building will house several departments and centralize offices that are now scattered in locations around Rigby.

In addition, the two-story annex building will feature an assembly room for large meetings and space for expansion in an unfinished basement.

“It’s going to be conveniently located, you’re gonna save $30,000 a year in tax payer in paying rent because we will own the building,” said Brian Farnsworth, Chairman of the Commissioners.

The building will be paid for with existing funds and payment in lieu of taxes from the federal government. There will be no tax increase to fund the project.

The contractor, commissioners, and NBW architects will gather following the groundbreaking for a pre-construction meeting.
