Civic Auditorium gets new name

Idaho Falls has formally changed the name of the Civic Auditorium.

It will now be known as the Idaho Falls Civic Center for the Performing Arts. The name change was recommended by the Civic Auditorium committee last March.

Before that could happen, however, the city council had to approve a resolution outlining an official policy for the naming of city facilities, parks, and locations.

That policy was adopted in July and recognizes three basic categories for naming things. Those include historic events, groups, or places, outstanding individuals, and major donations. The policy outlines considerations under each category.

You can see those policy guidelines below. The committee recommended the name change in conjunction with a new mission statement:

“The mission of the Idaho Falls Civic Center for the Performing Arts is to provide a gathering place where local, regional, national, and international cultural activities illuminate, educate, and entertain.

The Idaho Falls Civic Center for the Performing Arts celebrates the diversity of our community by offering a variety of life-long learning opportunities.”
