Turkeys and other donations still needed for Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is next week and many families across Southeast Idaho don’t have the means to be able to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving meal.
The JNL Family Crisis Center in Pocatello is trying to hep as many families as possible for the holidays.
On Wednesday, the group held another “Fill the Bus for Thanksgiving” event at Wells Fargo in Pocatello.
Armando Orozco, office manager for JNL, said they are behind in donations.
The goal is to be able to fill 500 boxes for families within the Pocatello/Chubbuck school district.
Currently, it only has about 36 turkeys, and only enough rolls, pies, stuffing and veggies to feed about 80 families.
Orozco said donations went pretty well on Wednesday but they still have a long way to go and they hope the community can help get there.
“Sometimes we get blessed and we get living our lives and we forget where we come from,” Orozco said. “And it’s important to remember that there are others out there struggling really hard and the holiday season is supposed to be something that’s supposed to be joyful and something that we just get together and become family. And so that’s what we’re trying to do – we’re trying to bring joy back to that family.”
There will be one more “Fill the Bus” opportunity on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Smith’s parking lot in Chubbuck.
The deadline for donations is Nov. 21. The boxes will be passed out that day starting at 3:30 p.m. at Phil Meador Subaru.
