Four transported to hospital after vehicle struck power pole

Rexburg Police report four individuals had to be extricated from a vehicle after it struck a power pole on North 2nd East at 8:45 p.m. Monday.

According to Capt. Randy Lewis, driver 21-year-old Alec Joe Burnside of Rexburg was driving northbound on 2nd East when his car veered across the street and crashed into a light pole at 75 N 2nd East.


Lewis said there were 3 men and one woman in the car, and all had to be extricated from the vehicle.

According to Lewis, CPR was administered to one man to revive him at the scene.

31-year-old Jessica Renee Henager of Rexburg was taken to Madison Memorial Hospital, and two passengers, 25-year-old Richard Leroy Farris of Rexburg and 36-year-old William Lee Schmidt of Victor were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Henager was listed in stable condition, Farris was listed in critical condition and Schmidt was listed in serious condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

Burnside was treated and released at Madison Memorial. Lewis said he is currently in custody at the Madison County jail for felony aggravated DUI and reckless driving.

Lewis said the investigation is continuing.
