4H purchase by Idaho Falls approved

The 4H Fairgrounds in Idaho Falls has officially been approved to be purchased by the city from Bonneville County.

The city held a meeting Tuesday night where council members unanimously approved the change. Bonneville County approved the decision in a meeting Wednesday morning, which means the property is now sold to the city so the Idaho Falls Zoo can use it as an animal education center.

Idaho Falls and Bonneville County held their own public hearings before making the approvals. The goal is to have the education center under construction by next summer, and the 4H Club is looking to move to Sandy Downs.

The education center will be named the “Maeck Family Foundation Education Center,” in honor of this generous donation.

The total purchase of the land was $695,000, and approval required a 2/3rds vote by each party, respectively.
