Man arrested for pointing gun at motorists

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23-year-old Ryan Benns of Idaho Falls Friday on charges of felony aggravated battery.

Deputies were called to Hitt Road and Iona Road at around 9:50 p.m. Friday. A motorist called police to report a car had followed them from Walmart and tried to wave them over. The motorist identified the driver as Benns and detailed concerns due to previous experiences with Benns and left the area to avoid him.

However, the reporting party said Benns continued to follow the vehicle, pulled alongside and pointed a gun.

Deputies contacted Benns at his residence. According to reports, Benns admitted following the motorist but denied having or displaying a firearm.

Deputies found a handgun in Benns’ vehicle that matched the weapon the motorist described.
