Man killed after train crashes into his pickup near Inkom

A 45 year old Pocatello man died after a train crashed into his pickup, which was parked on the tracks Friday night.

Idaho State Police say the man was Samuel E. Laxton, of Pocatello.

The incident happened around 8:30 p.m., along Old Highway 91 at Blackrock Canyon Road, near Inkom.

ISP says, Laxton, was in a 1992 Ford truck that was parked on the railroad tracks. A train struck the vehicle, ejecting Laxton. He succumbed to his injuries on scene. Laxton was not wearing a seat belt.

Authorities say the train did sound its horn and attempted to stop. Laxton did not attempt to move, it was unclear if he was aware of the situation.

The train tracks were blocked for approximately two and a half hours.

Next of kin has been notified and the crash is still under investigation.

There is no official word on why his truck was parked on the tracks.
