DOE approves Battelle-INL management extension

The U.S. Department of Energy has approved a five-year extension of Battelle Energy Alliance’s contract to manage the Idaho National Laboratory.

The extension, contingent upon successful negotiation of applicable terms and conditions, will extend the BEA contract until September 30, 2024.

The base period of BEA’s original contract began on February 1, 2005 and went until September 30, 2014. At that time, the five-year option was exercised by DOE. The current period of performance ends September 30, 2019. But, the extension will keep BEA at the helm until 2024.

In a statement to employees, Laboratory Director Mark Peters said, ” This announcement underscores the tremendous impact the Laboratory continues to have on our nation’s energy and security challenges. It also shows the well-placed confidence that DOE has in each one of you. As I’ve said many times, I’m grateful to each of you. It is because of your dedication and determination that we are able to accomplish our important mission for our nation.”

Peters offered his thanks to Energy Secretary Rick Perry. “I would also like to thank the Idaho congressional delegation and Gov. Otter for their unwavering support of INL’s important mission of changing the world’s energy future,” said Peters. “And most importantly, I want to thank each employee at INL, whose hard work and dedication made this possible. We at INL are very excited to continue to address the nation’s energy and security challenges.”
