Idaho Falls Mayor’s Scholarship Fund applications now available

Applications for the Idaho Falls Mayor’s Scholarship Fund are now available. The scholarship fund was started in 2006 by former Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman. It only applies to students in the 91 and 93 school districts (Idaho Falls and Bonneville).

There are two types of scholarships available. The “Promise Scholarship” is for students in 8th to 11th grade. The “Senior Scholarship” is for current seniors. The scholarships can be used for any type of post-high school education.

There is also a new community service scholarship this year, the Jared Fuhriman Community Service Award. Teachers, counselors and other school staff can nominate students who they think have made an impact on the community.

Those in charge of the scholarship fund say it’s their duty to help young people with their futures.

“We as a community have teh opportunity to be involved in helping kids and lighting that path to higher education for them,” Leslie Pincock, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Scholarship Fund, said. “Being an example, being mentors and allowing these young people to shine. And that’s our goal through the Mayor’s Scholarship Fund.”

The deadline to apply is February 7th. Students who wish to apply for the scholarship can talk to a counselor or career advisor at their local school, or they can apply on line here.
