Shop With a Cop a big success in eastern Idaho

Law enforcement officers throughout the upper valley turned out early Saturday to help make Christmas real for select children in the community during the annual Shop With a Cop event.

About 80 children were accompanied by officers from Rexburg, Teton, Madison, Fremont and Jefferson Counties, and Idaho State Police at the Walmart store in Rexburg. After a breakfast at McDonalds, police used money they’d collected in various fundraisers throughout the year to help the kids purchase Christmas gifts for their family members.

The Rexburg Shop With a Cop program is described as one of, if not the largest in Idaho.

No less important, however, was the Bonneville County effort involving sheriff’s deputies and the Idaho Falls Police Department. About 40 cops turned out to help out about 30 children. After breakfast at the Eagles Lodge, the officers escorted kids to Target, which helped out the Idaho Falls KMart crew this year.
