Ammon man sentenced to 45 days in jail for firing gun during argument

An Ammon man was sentenced to spend the next 45 days in jail after police say he fired a gun into the ground after arguing with his ex-wife and her boyfriend.

33-year old Ryan McDonald pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

His attorney says his ex-wife’s boyfriend started assaulting him, and that’s when McDonald grabbed a pistol from his truck and fired it into the ground.

He argued McDonald was in danger but did not point the gun at anyone.

However, prosecutors say McDonald was never assaulted.
