Do you know what ‘Merry KONGmas’ is?

If you stop by the Pocatello Animal Shelter this holiday season, they are hoping to hear a different take on an old holiday greeting.

“Instead of ‘Merry Christmas,’ we want to hear ‘Merry KONGmas,'” said Rhett Nicks, Animal Services Director.

So, what is ‘KONGmas?’ Better yet, what is a ‘KONG?’

A KONG is a snowman-like chew toy for dogs, and the shelter is looking to gather enough of these tough toys for each one of the shelter’s dogs.

“Our hope is that we get a KONG for every kennel,” Nicks said. “The toys are a vital part of enrichment for the animals at the shelter and helps them cope with shelter life.”

Staff is also asking for donations of peanut butter to be placed inside the toys.

You can purchase the toy at a local pet store or online via an Amazon wish list found HERE.

Once you get the toy, be sure to drop it off at the Pocatello Animal Shelter, 3100 Avenue of the Chiefs.

You can also adopt a pet for the holidays from one of the KONGmas trees located at area businesses.

The trees can be found at:
