YMCA sends kids home with bags of toys for Christmas

The YMCA Learning Center has been sending kids home with bags of presents.

Donovan Stokes, the YMCA Learning Center’s director, wanted to help families who attend in a big way. He made a couple of phone calls and said he was able to organize a “tremendous” amount of gifts to be sent to the YMCA from all over the community.

More than 100 children attend the learning center, and Stokes was able to provide bags of wrapped gifts in addition to including brand new coats, boots, gloves and hats for every child.

“Definitely all of the children were very happy and parents were in tears during this holiday season. I wanted to do something for all of our children. It makes me happy to know that our children have the things that they need, that they’re safe and are happy,” Stokes said.

The YMCA usually hosts its Angel Tree event every year, but this year, Stokes wanted to make it even bigger than before.
