Ehardt named to Idaho legislature

Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter has appointed Barbara Ehardt to complete Janet Trujillo’s unexpired term in the Idaho House of Representatives.

Ehardt was among three people nominated by the Bonneville County Republican Central Committee’s District 33 legislative committee. The other two nominees were Mark Fuller and his son Paul Fuller.

Trujillo recently resigned from her third term after Otter appointed her to a vacancy on the Idaho State Tax Commission.

Ehardt lost a December 5 runoff election for Mayor of Idaho Falls.

“I am indeed humbled to receive this appointment from Governor Otter,” Ehardt said. “It has been my great honor to serve the people of Idaho Falls these past four years and now it will be my honor to serve the great people of Idaho in this upcoming legislative session. Truly I am humbled by this opportunity.”

Ehardt’s first 4-year term on the Idaho Falls City Council ends January 11, 2018.
She is manager of youth programming at Apple Athletic Club in Idaho Falls, owns Coach E’s Camps and Clinics, and is a motivational speaker. She is past president of the Bonneville County Republican Women.

Ehardt attended North Idaho College and Idaho State University on basketball scholarships before a 15-year coaching career that ended as head women’s basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton. She returned to live in Idaho Falls in 2003.

The legislative session begins January 8.
