Setting resolutions for the new year

It’s a new year and that means new goals. To some, new year’s resolutions are a tradition.

A lot of people follow the tradition of new year’s resolutions.

“They want to achieve that they’ve probably thought about throughout the year but they think ‘I’ll put it off until new year’s,'” says Eric Pettingill, Licensed Counselor

But why put it off?

“A fresh start, people I think, it gives them a sense of something new…It gives them some sense of hope that maybe things are going to be different,” says Pettingill.

Modifying your behavior and working with supportive people can make all of the difference.

“Through behavioral modification, if you’re working with someone in therapy or personal trainer if exercising is helpful. Having people around you that can motivate you and reinforce when you’re doing a good job. Giving yourself personal rewards to kind of encourage yourself to do better.”
