Local hospitals welcome New Year’s babies
It’s a new year and some Eastern Idaho families got a new addition today, a baby!
“Happy New Year, Archie,” Nikki Newman, new big sister, said.
Newman is the proud big sister of Archie, born just before eight o’clock this morning to parents Steven and Julie. He was the first baby born at Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls for 2018.
“We’re very happy, very excited, very elated,” Steven Newman said. “And also it’s an extra surprise that we are the first baby of the year.”
Over in Rexburg at Madison Memorial Hospital, the Alvarez family welcomed their sixth, that’s right sixth, daughter. Paislye Lyric was born at 6:45 this morning and was the hospital’s first baby of the new year. The family couldn’t believe it when the doctor told them they were having another girl.
“We didn’t believe the doctor,” Rachel Alvarez, Paislye’s mother, said. “They did five ultra sounds to figure it out. Dad was hoping for a boy though. I think she’s won his heart though.”
Both families received gifts from their hospital full of goodies not only for the baby, but the parents and family as well. The gifts ranged from diapers and toys to food and even a stroller for the Alvarez family. While most of Pasilye’s sisters think of her as a gift, one wasn’t quite as thrilled.
“Are you excited,” Rachel Alvarez asked one of her daughters who shook her head. “She wanted a brother, she’s a little disappointed.”
Meanwhile, Nikki Newman says she loves her new little brother, but not all the time.
“I’m sad cuz he’s crying so much today,” she said.
Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello also got its New Year’s baby. Zoe Baker was born to Kelli and Martin Baker around two this morning.
