Stranded woman walks four hours in freezing temps. to find help

One local woman found herself stranded and alone on an empty county road in freezing temperatures at 3:00 a.m. last month.

Terry Moore was driving on Bone Road looking for her son who called and said his car broke down. She got into a car accident and when she tried to call for help, she didn’t have any cell phone service.

She says she walked four hours and several miles until someone driving by stopped to help her.

“As I’m coming down the road, then I hit a dip and it threw me into the ditch, and every light on my car came on so I knew it was totaled. So, I stuck my phone out the window and tried 9-1-1 again, no service. I’m up here, there’s only one way to get out and that’s to walk, or else I’m going to freeze to death,” says Moore.

She walked for four hours in the cold darkness.

“I thought I can’t go any further, I just can’t, and I was just praying to God for help for him to send somebody to save me, and here comes this man, and I passed out in his truck.”

She was able to get home safely but she thinks something needs to be done to prevent this from happening to others.

“If they can’t put a cell tower in they need to put emergency phones every three or four miles, a person could easily walk that.”
