Garage fire causes $85,000 of damages

UPDATE: Officials report the homeowner was in the garage at the time the garage caught fire, and he was able to escape. There were no other occupants in the home.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and prevent it from reaching the home.

Initial reports indicate the homeowner was working on a Corvette inside the garage when the fuel from the vehicle came in contact with a nearby space heater.

The initial estimated cost of the damage, including all contents of the garage, is $85,000.

No one was injured.

Idaho Falls Power was dispatched to address a power line burned by the fire.

Idaho Falls Police have blocked streets in a triangle around a garage fire near the intersection of Maple and 13th Streets.


The cause of the fire is unknown.

There are no reported injuries, but the fire is causing overhead power lines to arc, creating a safety hazard.


Maple and Placer around 13th Street and South Boulevard have been blocked for safety reasons.
