Fremont County found missing snowmobiler

UPDATE 1/11/18 2:00 p.m.: Fremont County Search and Rescue has recovered the body of snowmobiler Adam Wayne Andersen, 36, of Idaho Falls.

Sheriff Len Humphries said rescue teams began their search at the trailhead on the Yale Kilgore Road at 8 a.m. A search dog from Teton County, Wyoming was taken to the slide area and found the man’s body within a couple of minutes.

An ambulance helicopter pilot observed multiple snow slides in the same area yesterday.

It is currently rated as a “Stage 4” avalanche danger. Snowmobilers and cross country skiers are urged to use extreme caution.

UPDATE 8:21p.m.: The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office has called off the search for a missing man.

Fremont County Search and Rescue, Deputies and Life Flight found the missing man’s sled.

Sheriff Len Humphries tells Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News the man, who is from Idaho Falls, was caught in the avalanche.

The Sheriff Humphries says they are not sure if they will continue the search in the morning because of conditions.

The Sheriff’s office will release the name as soon as the missing man’s family is notified.

Sheriff Humphries wants to remind everyone to be careful when in the backcountry, and that conditions are really bad right now.

ORIGINAL STORY: The search is on for a snowmobiler in the Mount Jefferson area in Fremont County.

A call came into the sheriff’s office around 5 P.M.

Fremont County Search and Rescue, Life Flight and Fremont County deputies are searching for the person.

A group of snowmobilers were riding when they realized someone was missing.

Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries says there was an avalanche in the area.

The caller thinks the snowmobiler was buried.

Fremont County cannot confirm if the rider was buried in the avalanche or not.

Sheriff Humphries tells Local News 8 and KIDK Eyewitness News the Mount Jefferson area is very rugged and snow conditions in the backcountry are not good at all right now.
