Investigation continues after man killed after being hit by truck

UPDATE 1/15/18: An Idaho Falls man was crossing Grandview Drive near the Shaka’s Chevron gas station in Idaho Falls when he was struck by a Ford F-series pickup traveling Eastbound on Grandview Drive on Friday around 6:30 p.m.

IFPD reports the victim, 56-year-old Esteban Carranza Garcia, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt as he crossed the four-lane road near the intersection of Interstate 15 and Highway 20.

Idaho Falls Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and responders immediately began CPR. Shortly thereafter, the victim was transported to EIRMC.

According to employees of Shaka’s Chevron gas station, the man was a regular customer who typically stopped in a few times per day and lived in the area.

Police would like to remind you to use marked pedestrian crossings whenever possible and avoid wearing dark clothing when walking at night.

The incident investigation is still pending.

Idaho State Police assisted in taking measurements at the scene and with traffic control.

Police will submit a report to the prosecutor’s office who will determine whether any charges will be filed against the driver of the vehicle who hit the man.

Correction: (01/12/18 11:02 p.m.) Police are still investigating, no charges have been filed.

Officers do not suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

Update: (01/12/18 8:30 p.m.) Idaho Falls Police tell us Esteban Carranza Garcia was killed Friday night near Grandview and Saturn after being hit by a pickup while he was crossing the street.

Police say Garicia was a regular customer at the Shaka’s Oasis gas station located on the north side of Grandview Drive. He was walking across the street where there is no crosswalk and wearing a black hoodie when he was hit.

Police say no charges will be filed against the driver.

Idaho Falls Police was assisted in its investigation by Idaho State Police.

A man is in critical condition after being hit by a truck while crossing the street at Grandview and Saturn.

Holly Cook, with the Idaho Falls Police Department, said the man is 45 to 50 years old. He was sent to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in critical condition. His name is not being released at this time.

The driver stayed at the accident to talk to police.

Right now, investigators are re-creating the accident to see if any criminal charges need to be filed.
