Students at Sunnyside Elementary celebrating diversity

Students at Sunnyside Elementary are celebrating their third annual Diversity Week.

Today they had an assembly. The theme? The Olympics. They say the Olympics is a good example of different cultures coming together. There was singing, guest speakers and presentations. Not only are they celebrating cultures, they’re also going to enjoy winter sports.

Teachers on the multicultural committee say it’s important for the students to celebrate diversity.

“We’re just bringing all of these things together so that our kids are actively involved and engaged in winter and yet thinking of diversity and inclusion and how important that is that we learn to be respectful of one another, be respectful of other cultures and learn,” says Lisa Scott, teacher and member of the Multicultural Committee.

Tomorrow the students will be a Tautphaus Park for the day playing winter games.
