Madison Memorial launches telehealth ICU

Madison Memorial Hospital has launched a new service, taking advantage of its existing partnership with Salt Lake City-based University of Utah Health.

The program will use “TeleICU” to extend the resources and experts in the University’s hospital’s intensive care unit to Rexburg and patients in rural and remote areas.

Gordon Crabtree, CEO of U of U Health, said, “We know patients and their family members don’t want to travel while dealing with health care crises. Because of this agreement, the people of Madison Memorial don’t have to travel to receive critical care.”

The technology will allow Madison Memorial patients to immediately connect with providers at U of U Health. Through video-conferencing technology, they will be able to provide the highest possible level of care and expertise.

Rachel Gonzales, Chief Executive Officer of Madison Memorial, said, “The goal of TeleICU is to not only enhance intensive care at Madison Memorial, but allow our patients to receive effective care here in Rexburg,” said Madison Memorial Chief Executive Officer Rachel Gonzales. “This program will reduce travel cost, give greater access, and allow for faster recovery.”

The agreement does not change ownership, local control and governance or restrict patient choice in providers.
