Hollister man hospitalized after being shot by officer

Idaho State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Lincoln County early Tuesday morning.

According to ISP, a Shoshone Police Department officer made a routine traffic stop within city limits at around 1 a.m. While the officer was checking out the driver, the suspect drove away.

The officer pursued the suspect, identified as Jesus J. Malagnon, 30, of Hollister, Idaho.

The pursuit ended when Malagnon crashed his vehicle near the intersection of 450 West and 580 North in Lincoln County.

Malagnon exited his vehicle and fired shots at the officer, who returned fire. ISP said Malagnon was hit by at least one round and incapacitated. The officer was not hit by gun fire and was not injured.

Malagnon was take to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise by air ambulance.

The officer is now on administrative leave, as directed by Shoshone Police Department policy.

Idaho State Police is leading a Critical Incident Task Force investigation.
