Snowmobiler sent to hospital after accident near Island Park reservoir

A man was injured in a snowmobile accident that occurred near the west end of Island Park Reservoir around 11:50 a.m. Saturday.

According to a 911 call to Fremont County Sheriff’s dispatch, the crash victim was knocked unconscious during the accident, was drifting in and out of consciousness and complained of upper leg pain, back pain and being really cold.

Two deputies and Island Park EMS responded with snowmobiles and their Med Sled.

Thick clouds, fog and inclement weather prevented helicopters from flying further than Ashton, so life flight landed south of Ashton on Highway 20 and met up with Fremont County Search & Rescue who took the crew to Harriman State Park to assist with the injured snowmobiler.

Crews reached him around 2:00 p.m., and after his injuries were assessed, he was secured to a rescue toboggan and transported back to Harriman State Park where an Island Park Ambulance was waiting. The weather had since lifted allowing life flight to land at Harriman State Park.

The injured snowmobiler was loaded onto the helicopter and was transported to the hospital.

Island Park EMS, Fremont County Search & Rescue and Fremont County deputies cleared the staging area around 4:30 p.m.
