Rexburg approves tobacco ordinance
The Rexburg City Council has voted to raise the legal age for buying tobacco from 18 to 21.
The ordinance passed the city council on third reading last night. It will take effect on July 15.
In the meantime, the council encouraged citizens to contact their state legislators and encourage adoption of a similar law statewide.
Senate Bill 1255 is currently in the Senate State Affairs Committee. According to Rexburg officials, it will go to a public hearing at 8 a.m. February 14 in Boise.
