Phone scam targets Idaho Falls Power customers

Some customers of Idaho Falls Power say they’ve received calls from people claiming to represent the utility who are demanding payments.

Idaho Falls Power officials said the calls are apparently part of a scam.

The utility advises that if a caller demands immediate payment or asks you to buy a prepaid credit card to make a payment, it is a scam.

If a caller says the payment must be made over the phone, it is a scam.

If a caller cannot offer payment options, it is a scam.

If you are unsure about whether you owe money to the city of Idaho Falls for utilities, hang up and call the utility directly at 208-612-8280 or 208-612-8144.

And, be cautious about providing any personal or financial information over the phone if you did not initiate the call.
