Warmer temps causes Kelly Canyon to close lifts for season

Kelly Canyon Ski Resort is closing its lifts this season, since the lack of snow is making for some unsafe conditions for skiers and snowboarders.

On it’s Facebook page on Monday night, Kelly Canyon announced:

“While there is still significant snow on many of the ski runs at Kelly Canyon, the recent unusually warm temperatures combined with the lack of snowfall have created abnormally slick surfaces on the mountain particularly at the base. Such weather makes for unsafe skiing conditions and causes it to be nearly impossible to safely run the groomers and to make snow. Thus the resort closed until sufficient snowfall returns to allow us to safely operate. We hope that occurs this season so we can reopen.”

This comes as the Rocky Mountain States Hillclimb Association just announced it’s canceling the annual hillclimb event at Pebble Creek initially slated to take place the March 3rd and 4th weekend.
