Landslide closes forest road near Alpine

A portion of the Greys River Road near Alpine, Wyoming has been closed due to a large landslide.

The Bridger Teton National Forest said the temporary closure affects Forest Service Road 10138, about 17 miles from the parking lot in Alpine. The slide path and the surrounding area are highly unstable.

Porcupine Creek Road is unaffected by the slide and is open to the public.

Forest staff is working to establish a possible re-route around the slide, which could allow for passage beyond the buckling road.

Because it is still active and earth and mud are still moving, there is no estimate as to when the landslide might be removed from the road or any meaningful repair work begun.
