One killed in crash on I-15 north of Malad

UPDATE 10:05 p.m.: Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle fatality crash southbound on Interstate 15 near milepost 17, north of Malad City, in Oneida County, ID around 4:56 p.m. Friday.

21-year-old Kylie R. Smoot of North Salt Lake, UT was driving a 2013 Honda CRV southbound on I-15 when the vehicle went off the left shoulder of the roadway, came back on the interstate, rolled and came to rest on the right shoulder.

An ambulance transported Smoot and her passenger 20-year-old Abbey Thompson of Sagle, ID to Oneida County Hospital in Malad City. Smoot’s other passenger 21-year-old Lisa K. Huband of New River, AZ succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

ISP reports next of kin has been notified.

The right southbound lane was blocked for approximately an hour.

Idaho State Police was assisted by Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and Oneida Ambulance.

UPDATE 7:44 p.m.: Idaho State Police reports the right lane is now open.
