Rexburg local announces candidacy for house seat

Madison County Republican Chairman and Brigham Young University – Idaho administrator, Doug Ricks, announced his candidacy for Representative of District 34, Seat A against the incumbent Ron Nate in the Republican party.

Ricks announced his candidacy from the Madison County Courthouse Commissioner’s room.

During his announcement speech, Ricks outlined three primary focuses for his campaign.

The first area of focus is the economy. “Currently, the economy is good and everyone is feeling optimistic about things, but we can do better,” said Ricks. “It is time to focus on way for government and private business to work together in new and innovative ways. We need to find ways to create a business-friendly environment that is inviting to new businesses.”

The second area of focus is Education. “If elected, I will work to support teachers and improve the quality of education our students receive,” said Ricks.

The third focus area is accurately representing the needs of the community. “The main responsibility of any elected official is to put the needs to their constituents first,” said Ricks. “As a local party leader, I understand the needs of our region and the relationships necessary to get things done.”
