Snowmobilers rescued after stranded in Dry Creek Drainage

Four male snowmobilers from Shelley had an unexpected snowmobile experience in the Centennials Mountain Range’s backcountry northwest of Island Park Tuesday night.

Fremont County Search & Rescue reports the group of snowmobilers, ages ranging from 41 to 52, were riding south of Reas Peak when the four rode down a slope into Dry Creek.

Two were able to climb out, but the other two were not able.

One individual that made it out, acquired cell service and called Fremont County Sheriff’s Dispatch.

While the four waited for Search & Rescue crews, the trail had set up enough for the group to free one of their stranded sleds.

Crews reached the teams around 12:50 a.m. and spent the next hour helping the snowmobilers out of the drainage.

At 3:52 a.m., the four snowmobilers and rescue crews reached base camp at Blue Creek parking lot.

The group was tired but otherwise in good shape officials report.

Fremont County Search & Rescue Secretary Eric Thomas asks you don’t take chances in the back country this weekend.
