East Idaho oil and gas lease out for comment

What could become eastern Idaho’s only active oil or gas lease in over 20 years is now up for public comment.

The Bureau of Land Management Pocatello Field Office initiated a 15-day comment and review period for a preliminary environmental assessment (EA). The EA evaluates the availability of land nominated for competitive oil and gas leasing.

The area nominated involves one parcel of land totaling 836.23 acres about 10 miles northwest of Gray, Idaho in Bonneville County.

The entire acreage involves split estate minerals where the mineral estate is reserved to the Federal government and the surface is privately owned.

The area lies within a Greater Sage-Grouse General Habitat Management Area. The Pocatello Field Office developed stipulations to be attached to the lease.

The BLM office has completed a preliminary environmental assessment and an initial finding of “no significant impact.”

Public comments will be accepted through April 10, 2018.

The documents are available here or at the BLM Pocatello Field Office at 4350 Cliffs Drive, Pocatello, Idaho 83204.
