Bullied boy adopts kitty with same cleft lip, rare eye condition
7-year-old Madden and his new kitty share more than just a loving human-and-pet bond.
They both have a cleft lip and eyes that are two different colors.
Madden adopted Moon after he was bullied on the school bus for his unique features.
Madden’s mother Christina Humphreys encouraged Madden to create a video to explain his unique qualities and remind friends to be kind, but she wasn’t sure it helped.
That’s when she heard about the kitten who shared the same conditions as Madden, and she knew the cat had to be a part of their family and knew the two were destined to become best friends.
With some financial help from friends, Madden and his family traveled from Oklahoma to Minnesota to meet and adopt Moon.
The pair has been inseparable ever since.
As for bullies, Madden said don’t be a “poophead” to others who are different.
“Don’t be mean to other people that are different. We’ve already been through a lot of hard stuff,” said Madden. “Show everybody kindness! You’re missing out on a lot of awesome people if you’re being a poophead to them. If somebody’s being mean to you, be nice to them. Because the most unlovable people need love the most,” he said.
