Family Home Evening app increases in popularity

It can be challenging to plan a family activity when you’ve got so much going on in your life. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has long advocated for weekly family home evenings.

Ryland Evans, originally from Idaho Falls, created a family home evening app he hopes will help not just Mormons, but any family to plan an uplifting and fun evening together.

This app has had over 8,000 downloads since February. The Musingi family of Idaho Falls finds it useful in helping them get together as a family .

“So there’s prayers and songs and scriptures and lessons, ” Kristal Musingi said. ” You can really make it as simple or complex as you’d like. ”

The app gives suggestions ranging from the lesson to activities to refreshments.

It gives suggestions for songs and even links to music.

The Musingis use the app calendar feature to plan what everyone’s doing during the week, from Kenyon ‘ s wrestling practices to Mika ‘ s choir performances.

“If I had to suggest to other families, it ‘ s definitely it’s a go, because it’s just so simple to use,” Michael, the father, said.

The app has 100 game suggestions, like ” Apples to Apples. ”

“What I like is that they include the refreshments and the games,” the youngest son, Myles said.

Daughter, Mika’s favorite part is just being with her family.

“It’s just a day where out of our busy schedules we just spend time with each other,” Mika said.

App creator, Rylan Evans is thrilled to see families successfully using his app.

“Families need help getting together, ” Evans said. ” We are in a fast-paced and busy world right now, and it’s crazy how we want to do the right things, in being with our family, but we just don’t do it, because there’s not enough time.”

“You can really never go wrong spending time with your family, because they know that you care and have their best interest at heart,” Cristal Musingi said.

E vans says the app isn’t just for Mormons. There are lessons geared to other faiths and even people of no faith who want to teach their children principals like honesty.

You can download the app from the app store by searching for family home evening or FHE.
