New high school getting a built in bank

If you need to withdraw or deposit money at your local credit union or bank you can just stop by Thunder Ridge High School in the fall.

Bonneville School District 93 is looking for a local credit union or bank to partner with to put one in the school.

There is a designated spot in the new school for a credit union or bank. They got the idea from schools in the Boise area that have credit unions within the school.

Students will work with professionals in the bank. They say they want their students to learn financial literacy.

“Everything we do is to help our students be successful after high school. Whether it’s post-high school education or career training or some sort of vocational training and if we can create this partnership students themselves will run the credit union. Parents, teachers, community members want to come and use it just as any branch,” says Charles Shackett, Superintendent.

They haven’t chosen a credit union or bank yet. The district has released a “Request for Proposal” so credit unions and banks can present their entity. They will select one after the April 13th deadline.
