I-15 open after downed power lines causes blockage and power outage
UPDATE 10:46 a.m.: Interstate 15 is now open in both directions.
UPDATE 10:36 a.m. Interstate 15 is still closed. As of 10:23 a.m., Google reported a 22 minute delay northbound, and a 23 minute delay southbound.
UPDATE: Idaho State Police say a power pole on the northbound side of the interstate caught fire.
Patrolmen were concerned the line would drop onto the interstate.
The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Hall Police, Blackfoot Police, and the Idaho Transportation Department are helping ISP divert northbound traffic at exit 89, the junction of US 91.
Southbound traffic is being diverted at exit 93, Bergner Blvd. and the junction of U.S. 26.
The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office says traffic will be diverted until 10:30 a.m., and officers will advise when it is actually re-opened.
ORIGINAL: The Idaho Transportation Department reports Interstate 15 is blocked from milepost 89 to 93, just 1 mile north of the Blackfoot area, for downed power lines.
Officials say to expect delays.
Traffic is being diverted to Highway 91 through Blackfoot.
Idaho Power reports 1,357 customers are without power. The outage started around 6:00 a.m. Friday.
Power restoration time is 9:30 a.m.
