More than 60 more dead snow geese found

UPDATE: 8:30 PM

Idaho Fish and Game is still investigating what exactly happened to more than 100 snow geese killed in Saturday’s storm in Idaho Falls.

There were about 50 snow geese found in a parking lot off Yellowstone Highway, just down the road from our studio here. Then another 60 more were found on top of the roof of Yellowstone Warehouse just across the parking lot. Many are speculating about what actually happened. Idaho Fish and Game believes it was from a lightning strike.

“The most likely scenario is that it was a lightning strike because all of the geese were clustered very close together within about 100 yards of each other,” James Brewer with Idaho Fish and Game, said. “If it was hail we think they probably would have been a little more spread out and when the officer showed up he probably would have found some geese that were still alive, wounded and injured. All these geese were dead on arrival when he showed up.”

Some of the geese will be taken to a wildlife health lab in Caldwell to undergo a necropsy, which is an autopsy for animals, to find out the official cause of death.
