High Wind Warning, Winter Weather Advisory issued
A vigorous storm system is moving for Wednesday night and Thursday with a warm front and cold front combo. After midnight into early Thursday, expect heavy rains and high elevation snow showers. A strong cold front will make its way into Eastern Idaho by the late morning and mid-day hours. The National Weather Service in Pocatello and Riverton, have issued a High Wind Warning for the Lower Snake River Plain. A Wind Advisory for the Upper Snake River Plain. HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM THURSDAY TO MIDNIGHT MDT
THURSDAY NIGHT…
The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a High Wind
Warning, which is in effect from 9 AM Thursday to midnight MDT
Thursday night. The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect.
* IMPACTS/TIMING…Strong winds are expected to begin around mid-
morning Thursday and continue through Thursday evening. High
profile vehicles will be difficult to control. Wind damage,
especially trees, is possible. Power outages may also occur. In
areas where no rain has fallen, blowing dust may suddenly reduce
visibility on Interstates 86, 84, and 15 to near zero.
* WINDS…Sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph
are possible.
* LOCATIONS…Burley, Shoshone, American Falls, Pocatello,
Blackfoot, and Craters of the Moon national monument. This
includes Interstate 84 from near Burley to the Utah border,
Interstates 86 and 15, and U-S 20 and 26.

THURSDAY NIGHT…
The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 9 AM Thursday to midnight MDT
Thursday night.
* IMPACTS/TIMING…Wind will increase during the mid-morning
hours, peaking during the afternoon and early evening. These
strong winds can make control of your motor vehicle difficult
and driving hazardous. Blowing dust where no rain has fallen yet
can mean areas on the highway where visibility will suddenly
fall to near zero, increasing the hazard. Wind of this speed can
damage houses and carry away unsecured objects.
* WINDS…Southwest to northwest wind of 30 to 40 mph with gusts
to 50 mph.
* LOCATIONS…All of Clark, Teton, and Fremont Counties, and
portions of Madison County. This includes the towns of St.
Anthony, Ashton, Island Park, Driggs, and Victor. Also includes
Interstate 15 heading into Montana and U S Route 20.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT
TONIGHT TO 6 AM MDT FRIDAY ABOVE 7000 FEET…
* WHAT…Snow expected. Plan on slippery road conditions,
including during the morning commute on Thursday. Tree
branches could fall as well. Total snow accumulations of 6 to
12 inches, with localized amounts up to 16 inches, are
expected.
* WHERE…All elevations above 7000 feet in the central Idaho
mountains, The Upper Snake highlands, the Caribou highlands,
and the Bear Lake basin. This includes Galena Summit on State
Route 75.
* WHEN…From midnight tonight to 6 AM MDT Friday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for reduced visibilities at
times.
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT
TO 6 AM MDT FRIDAY…
* WHAT…Moderate to heavy snow expected…mixing with strong
southwest wind at times. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 14
inches, with localized amounts up to 19 inches, are expected.
* WHERE…Yellowstone National Park, Absaroka Mountains and
Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains.
* WHEN…From midnight tonight to 6 AM MDT Friday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Plan on difficult travel conditions,
including during the morning commute on Thursday. Expect
drifting snow and significant reductions in visibility at
times.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
