Controlled access lifted at Pocatello schools

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Officials report the controlled access has been lifted.

Pocatello Police Officers were in the area of Hawthorne Road and US Hwy 30 looking for a wanted subject who had fled from officers Thursday around 12:50 p.m.

During the incident, several schools in the area were put into controlled access as a precautionary measure as the suspect fled on foot.

The wanted subject Michael Chaffin, 32, was located shortly after fleeing and was arrested without further incident.

He was charged with outstanding Warrants and Eluding officers.

Pocatello/Chubbuck School District #25 officials reports Hawthorne Middle School, New Horizons Elementary and Wilcox Elementary have been placed on controlled access due to a police matter in the neighborhood at Hawthorne Park.

Controlled access means students are in class, and teaching is continuing. Doors are locked, all entrances are monitored and there is no hallway traffic without permission.

Officials said students are safe.

The schools will remain on controlled access until police say the situation has been cleared.
