BYU-Idaho student hurt in vehicle-pedestrian accident

A female BYU-Idaho student was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle on South 2nd East in Rexburg at around 6:13 p.m. Thursday.

Rexburg Police said the pedestrian was hit while walking in a mid-street crosswalk. The woman, identified as Nima Karunananyake, 19, was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by ambulance with head injuries. She was listed in fair condition Friday morning.

The driver, identified as Jenna Leigh Tracy, 40, of Rexburg, was cited for inattentive or careless driving. She was also issued infraction citations for not carrying proof of insurance or registration in the vehicle.

According to police, Tracy was southbound on Second East and did not see the woman in the crosswalk.
