Idaho Falls woman killed in pedestrian accident near Wendell

An Idaho Falls woman was killed at around 1:48 a.m. Thursday while she was walking along Interstate 84 near Wendell.

Idaho State Police said Cynthia J. Mead, 57, was walking eastbound in the right lane of the interstate near milepost 158. Robert R. Pierce, 60, of Reno, Nevada was driving eastbound in a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck. According to ISP, Pierce was unable to see Mead walking because of a curve in the road and was unable to stop before striking her.

Mead died of her injuries at the scene.

Both eastbound lanes of the interstate were blocked for about 3 hours.
