Blackfoot police shoot and kill suspect

A man was shot and killed by police after stabbing a hostage in Blackfoot Friday night.

Blackfoot Police said officers were called to the 1200 block of South Broadway at around 10:45 p.m. Friday.

A 24-year-old male suspect was holding a 20-year-old woman against her will with a knife.

The man refused to comply with police demands and stabbed the woman. Officers fired at the man.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was transported to Bingham Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

No other information about the incident, the suspect, or victim have yet been released.

Blackfoot Police said the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending investigation.

Pocatello Police and Idaho State Police are conducting an investigation at request of the Blackfoot Police Department.
